Someone just joined your team, let’s call him Robert. Much to your delight, Robert is so excited about his new business and goes over all the training materials from the company!
Then he decides a trip to the bookstore is in order to buy some books on building his new network marketing business.
Now he thinks it’s time to get on the internet and start surfing for different ways that can build his business for him.
For the next few days he stays on the internet (he’s now officially caught in the big “black hole”) and he’s starting to get confused, as one website leads to another…
“Hmmm,” Robert asks himself, “should I build my own website?
While he’s thinking about that, he decides to organize his contact list by male and female, alphabetical, geographical, color coded for personality type, shoe size, and so on.
In Robert’s mind, he wants everything to be perfect BEFORE he starts building his new business.
So what’s wrong with reading books and surfing the net for business building and other resources? What’s wrong with going through the company’s training material?
Well there’s nothing wrong with that. Except that Robert is focusing on the wrong things.
If your car dies on a major highway there’s no point wiping your car clean while you’re waiting for the tow truck.
Robert is not alone. Most people in this industry when starting out convince themselves that what they’re doing is priority but in reality they are not priority in building their business. Yes they are useful, and definitely more fun and easier!
So do you spend your time doing fun and easy things while avoiding those things that could have a good impact on your business?
We’ve all heard this before:
80% of your results will come from 20% of your efforts and 20% of your results will come from 80% of your effort.
So I don’t know about you but I would rather spend my time on activities that can yield me better results than spend most of
my time on stuff that may bring in minimal results.
For example, I won’t spend too much time with tire-kickers, but with movers and shakers I’ll spend as much time as they want. And I won’t spend my time reinventing the wheel because my company’s materials are just not good enough. I’d rather spend my time bringing in new customers and business partners.
So it’s time to ask yourself a serious question…
“Are you spending most of your time doing the things that can give you the best results or are you spending too much time on the fun and easy stuff?”

I”m not saying forget the 4 I mentioned specifically, the company you choose is up to you. What I’m saying is don’t promote ANY business.
If this sounds weird please allow me to explain.
You see, as hard as it may be for you to accept this, people don’t give a hoot about your company and their products! “But Frank,” you say, “my products really are better.” That may be true but people DON’T CARE! They couldn’t care less.
There are many great reputable companies out there, but once you start explaining that to your prospects you are falling into the trap of telling the “features” of your company and their products. And people don’t care about that at first when they’re looking for a home business! What they care about are the “benefits” to them! Yes, you’ve heard that before but it’s true.
This is why it’s ALWAYS best to promote a “system” rather than the company itself – especially not a company website. The system can be company specific (not the company website, but a system designed to sell that specific opportunity) or even better, a generic system – one that really stresses the benefits of having your own home-based business. Doing so will usually lead to more sign-ups. This I learned from I experience.
So regardless of which business you’re promoting, try promoting a system, with your business plugged into it.

Everyone says that a bigger mailing list is the be all and end all. After all to those who think this is a number’s game (I hate that expression) figure the bigger the list the more people will buy. Unfortunatley that’s not the reality. What really matters is not the size of your list but the quality of people on your list. Are they buyers? Do they buy when you send out an email? Or are they just sending there?
If they are not buyers you could have a million people in your list but who cares – they’re not buyers!
The trick is having a list of people that will spend the money on your product or service when you invite thenm to do so. This is what spells success.
Most people don’t know how to grow a list of buyers and that’s what usually stands in the way of success. If you have a big list of people that don’t buy then all you have is a big list.

I could never understand why people sign up in a business and quit in their frst month or even in their second or third. What’s that all about? Why did they bother joining in the first place?
Remember that any legitimate home business is just that – a business. You have to be reasonable with your expectations about growing a business. It won’t happen overnight. And those that say it will are not telling you the truth.
Here’s a scenario: Someone joins a business and is all excited because by this time next week they’ll be rich. Next week comes and – nothing. A week after that still nothing. So they get upset and leave. Even in their very first month! So what do they do next? They join the “next best thing.” But this time they are absolutely sure this is the one that WILL work. Well, guess what? That’s right – the same old thing. So they quit that one too and find another one. and then another and another and so on.
There are people out there who have joined 4 or 5 businesses or more in just six months or less and still don’t have a single penny to show for it!
Now here’s why I feel real bad for these folks – Had they stayed in the first one they joined and put in some effort, they would most likely be seeing some compensation after the same 6 month period. Instead they are still hopping from program to program and have not made a single penny.
The old saying that “if something sounds too good to be true it probably is” is so very true. You must be reasonable with your expectations.
I’ve said time and time again – find a business that is reputable and honest, has been around for a while and has a history of paying their people on time, each time – AND STAY WITH IT!
If you don’t give it a fair chance how will you know if it works? And don’t get into “my business is better than your business” nonsense. No one wins those discussions. There are pros and cons to many legitimate businesses. And of course make sure you join a legitimate company.
Once and for all just please stay with it!
I don’t remember exactly who said this but I think it was Donald Trump who said many businesses fail because people simply don’t give it enough time. So why would your legitimate home business be any different? It’s not.
